North road ward councillors report -June 2021

18 Jun 2021

Ward work is getting easier due to some of the Covid restrictions being lifted as we can talk to residents, we are also arranging a series of outdoor pop-up ward surgeries to engage further.

We have compiled a list of possible surveys for the whole ward and some street surveys for engaging with our residents. This will be a rolling document and we will need to keep on top of what is happening within the ward to ensure we can ask residents for their views/wishes with accuracy.

Residents have continued to ask for our help throughout Covid and we have dealt with issues such as : parents/children being unhappy with their school; council hedgerow overgrowing a handrail used by the elderly; a resident of Mellor Court needing help from different departments of the Council; neighbour/landlord/tenant disputes and issues; covid infringements; big litter problem in Pendleton; litter/fly-tipping in various back lanes; blocked gutters/drains (noticeable during our April rainy weather). We have also helped residents regarding planning issues that affect them, as well as getting the right help for several elderly residents

The "Northgate Project" - which also includes North Road Ward - is continuing and being successful. We have been working with Council Officers and the Police and getting the message out to residents regarding their personal and home safety. Some of the initiatives we have been involved with is the procurement of 4 more mobile cameras to hope fully combat fly tipping and anti-social behaviour.

Another initiative is to try and "prettyfy" some currently drab areas - in the hope this will make people WANT to keep that area tidy - to that end each councillor in these wards has been awarded 20 planters (filled) to distribute/offer to residents, to enhance their "space". A further initiative is to get some artwork on the end walls of some houses/buildings - in the hope that the mindless graffiti can be eliminated, and we will have something worthwhile to look at as we drive through. Obviously, permission needs to be sought - which is something we could not do previously because of Covid restrictions; however, now things have "eased" we hope to be asking appropriate residents soon
