WORKING TOGETHER FOR DARLINGTON - Covid Survey Summary - Hummersknot.

Residents are generally supportive of calls to ensure frontline health & care workers are rewarded for their wonderful efforts, especially during the pandemic. Many raised concerns over the lack of 'transparency' used by the Government in awarding contracts for PPE (some of which totally failed). Lib Dems are pursuing this nationally and will leave no stone unturned. We're also keen to see 'take up' of the vaccine is fully undertaken.

A few mentions of the issue of the apparent demise in the visibility of Police or Support Officers in the local areas was raised, together with the phrase 'yet more broken promises' from those who recall Tory pledges for 40,000 more officers at the last general election. With Police Crime Commissioner elections due in May, Vicky will be keeping an eye on this issue before they cast there vote!

Some, especially long-term, residents have criticised local planners for allowing precious local green spaces, or 'lungs', to be built on, thus robbing areas of their treasured identities and resulting in over-density and over-demand on existing infrastructure. There is disappointment all round on this and Vicky is pressing for better preservation and strategic policy.

Potholes, especially after recent cold weather, were raised by many. We will be contacting the local Highways team to report issues raised to her. If you are awareof any, please let us know (contact details below) and we will chase them too.

Several issues raised, clearly by residents living in an area where the environment is of paramount importance. A proliferation of litter and excess dog mess are cause for serious concern and Vicky and Scott will be chasing the Council on these. The trimming of trees and other vegetation; weed removal in footways and better grass cutting, road sweeping and general maintenance of public areas. All will be raised by Vicky & her Lib Dem team.

Varied feedback on improvements motivates Vicky into action on several features and issues. More benches in parks, better road & cycle route markings, provision of more Free Parking, enhanced Council transparency & Councillor dedication, and even a single town centre bus station were amongst those listed. If you've anymore, please do not hesitate to get in touch.(contact details below)

Mentioned frequently were the issues that face many, especially the elderly, in accessing public footways; with damaged paving slabs and associated trip hazards, puddling and tree root incursion being particularly prevalent. Vicky is keen to hear from anyone who is aware of such problems, please contact her, and they will chase for inspection and remedy.

A number of parents, and grandparents, have voiced their worry at the speed of traffic on Edinburgh Drive, where their children attend school. Vicky has already challenged the local Traffic team and has asked them to investigate signage and speeds.

Vicky Atkinson wholeheartedly agrees with the many plaudits conferred, in our survey (& wider), upon the landlords of the local Mowden pub, Simon & Rachel Leadbetter, for their inspired and wonderful home-cooked delivery service - to those in need - during the pandemic. A great big 'Thank You' to Simon & Rachel!
